My Diet

By combining things I've picked up from people on the internet and fellow athletes I have met, I try to follow a a diet that combines what I've learned and works for me that supplements the activities I partake in. Hopefully it will assist you a bit. But take what I say with a grain of salt, for I am not an expert in nutrition. I just take as many tips here and there as I can and try to make it work for me. I advise you to do the same as well.

After realizing that I've done nothing but eat junk food and drink soda for most of my life, I decided to try going for a healthier diet. I thought about my future and my health and looked at other people who experience health problems due to a lack of a nutritious diet. So I went around and looked at what athletes are eating on a daily basis. Everyone has their own theories and plans, but they all shared a common concept. With that, I combined all the things I learned from them and made my own.

Before I decided to make a change in my diet, I use to eat all sorts of stuff, ranging from cookies, to chips, to fries. What's odd was that I did not gain any pounds for my metabolism is very high. Because of that, I was led to believe that I can eat anything, get away with it, and be able to enjoy it while it lasts. I found out that it was not a good way to think. You have your whole life ahead of you, so it would be to your benefit to start eating right, while your young and strong.

Now I still eat fast food and junk to this point, but I have significantly decreased my consumption of those. I think that it is not good to completely change your diet all of a sudden, for it will only hurt your chances of a complete switch over. A gradual increase is the way to go. So since last year, little by little, I have been able to avoid most junk foods unless I am at Short Boy's house.

The diet I follow right now is based on a high protein diet. I heard that if you want to gain weight, you need to consume grams of protein two times your own weight. Since that is really hard for me to do every day, I try to intake about 130-260g a day.

Healthy crap I eat/drink when I do:

Breakfast

- Egg whites
- Oatmeal
- whole grain cereal
- 2% Milk
- Wheat Bread
- Orange Juice
- Water

Lunch/Dinner

- Rice
- Tuna
- Turkey
- Chicken
- Cottage Cheese
- Steak
- Peanuts
- Tofu
- Water

I am a noob when it comes to supplement, so I take the very basic to start off.

Supplements I use:

- MetRX Protein Bars (26g per serving)
- GNC 100% Whey Protein (20g per serving)
- GNC Mega Men dietary supplement

Practice What You Preach

Trying to stick with a healthy diet is an expensive investment, but it is an investment on your life. I try to convince my parents to get a bunch of this stuff when they go grocery shopping. Sometimes they just give me money and let me go at it.

When I do make the right choices in diet I try to avoid saturated fat and cholesterol, but since our society is convoluted with fast food, instant/ready made meals, making quick cash off of commercial products, it's hard to find food that has a lot less of these unhealthy things. And if you do find healthy foods, chances are it'll hurt your wallet. It's give or take when it comes to being healthy. Until our society becomes more concerned with eating right, the healthier food will be a bit pricy.

I am guilty of eating fast food when I know I shouldn't. I don't make much money and don't have time to prepare a decent meal most of the time, so I do go out and spend a few bucks on a quick and filling lunch and dinner. Or I eat whatever is at Short Boy's house. Either way, I know I shouldn't, but I do break the chain by eating healthy when I can. It's better than not doing it at all I suppose.
